HATS — Handmade Acts of Thoughtful Service is back! HATS is a service club where students crochet hats to donate to cancer patients in our community. No experience is necessary. Whether you already know how to crochet or want to learn, come join us!
Our first meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1, at lunch in Room 49. Remember to grab your lunch before heading up. HATS will meet every Tuesday at lunch.
Come crochet, learn something new, and help us turn yarn into an act of thoughtful service!
Mathcounts tryouts will begin tomorrow after school in the library for 8th graders. The tryouts for seventh grades will take place on Wednesday, and the tryouts for sixth graders on Thursday. Please bring a pencil and eraser to take the tryout test. Tryouts will conclude before 4:30. If you know that you cannot make it on the tryout date for your grade, please email Mr. Chen at chen_aletheia@cusdk8.org. ATTENTION STUDENTS: Do not touch the volleyball nets! They are set up to be used during PE classes and need to stay at the height they are currently at. Please do not pull, push, hang on, stretch, or untie the nets. The nets may be used at brunch and lunch appropriately.
This is a reminder that iPads and all technology are not allowed out on campus during brunch or lunch. Please make sure you are not using any technology during this time on campus!

The Science Olympiad is back! We are underway to continue building on what we started last year and do even better this year! For try-outs, please fill out the interest form. We need to know how many people to expect for the tryout on Wednesday, 9/9, and we can have enough tests. The test is about 70 minutes after school (3:15p start). More information to come, and we look forward to seeing you!

Please remember to bring your ID with you to the brunch and lunch line. If you were absent for picture day and did not receive an ID, you may print one out from Studentvue and bring that instead.

Welcome to the 2026-27 School Year Lawson Lightning! We are so excited for a great year!
Get ready for something new this year called Lawson Connect! This special schedule features a dedicated Connect Meeting in an assigned classroom, giving us time to build community, reflect on POL competencies, address upcoming school topics, and engage in SEL and Common Sense Media lessons. You will be able to see your assigned Lawson Connect classroom listed as your 8th period "advisory" in StudentVue by Friday, so make sure to check your schedule before the week ends to know exactly where to go. Our very first Lawson Connect takes place this Monday after 1st period, and all class periods will be slightly shorter to accommodate the schedule. Your 1st period teacher will remind you on Monday morning, but please check StudentVue this Friday so you know where to go!

- Cross Country (Boys & Girls): Everyone gets to run! Cross Country is a non-cut sport, so all runners are welcome. Have your parents fill out the registration form to join the team. First practice is Monday August 24th right after school at the track.

This is a reminder to check your schedule in StudentVUE today or sometime this weekend so you know where to go for our first Lawson Connect on Monday! Please look for the class listed as your 8th period “Advisory.” This is your assigned classroom for our very first Lawson Connect. Remember, Lawson Connect will take place after 1st period on Monday. Please log into StudentVUE ahead of time so you’re ready and know exactly which room to head to!

No food may be eaten in the downstairs hallway between Rooms 37 and 46 or on the blacktop. Students may not eat while playing sports. Good morning, students! Here are a couple of quick campus reminders:
- Gum Policy: Please remember that gum chewing is not allowed on campus at any time. If you are caught chewing gum, you will be assigned to participate in campus community service.
- Personal Devices: All smart watches, iPhones, and other personal devices must be turned off and placed inside your backpack as soon as you enter campus. Devices must remain put away until you leave campus at the end of the day, unless a staff member explicitly gives you permission to use them.

Following a highly successful inaugural year, the Lawson Jazz Band is back for year two! Auditions will take place on Monday, September 14. To participate, students must be currently enrolled in a Lawson music class—with exceptions for those auditioning on piano, guitar, or electric bass. Do you love doing math? Are you interested in joining a math competition team? If so, come try out for the Mathcounts team! Mathcounts is a national math competition which takes place in the spring. The Lawson Mathcounts team will consist of around 30 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and will hold practices every Wednesday after school from 3:15 to 4:45 pm until the competition date.
Tryouts will take place next week on Tuesday for 8th graders, Wednesday for 7th graders, and Thursday for 6th graders. The location will be shared with you soon. The tryout will end before 4:30 pm.
If you know that you cannot make it on the tryout date for your grade, please email Mr. Chen at chen_aletheia@cusdk8.org so that you can come in on another day. We look forward to seeing you there!

Today the PBIS store will be open at lunch, bring your bolt bucks for items to purchase in the store. The store is located in front of room 41. The PBIS store will be open every Friday during the last 20 minutes of lunch.
