Sam H. Lawson Middle School is a dynamic and inclusive learning community in the Cupertino Union School District, serving students in grades 6–8. Opened in the 2005–2006 school year, the school is named after Sam H. Lawson, a dedicated CUSD educator and visionary leader who served as a longtime teacher and the first principal of the district’s first junior high school. Lawson played a pivotal role in shaping the district during a time of significant growth. His legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to education lives on in the spirit of our school today.
At Lawson, we strive to develop the whole child through rigorous academics, social-emotional learning, and a safe, supportive environment. Grounded in the Portrait of a Learner, we help students become self-directed individuals, creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, effective communicators, and global citizens. Through strong teacher-student relationships, rich learning experiences, and a wide array of clubs and leadership opportunities, Lawson fosters lifelong learners ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
